you need a haircut, go to Dylan Deanda this guy gave me the best fade I’ve ever had. His customer service is top-tier, and his skills are insane. More people need to know about him! I’m telling you, whatever style you want, he’ll nail it his hands are pure magic.
This was my second time coming to him, thinking there’s no way it could be as good as the first time… and he still delivered perfectly. He will not fail you. I don’t normally write reviews, but trust me, this one’s worth it. Dylan truly deserves more recognition the man’s got serious talent.

Love this barbershop! My son gets his hair cut here from Ricky who is amazing – he does beautiful work and is calm, professional, and kind. It’s easy to get in with their online appointment scheduling process and the cuts are affordable. Highly recommend!

Walked in with the assumption of good service given the reviews. Just received one of the worst haircuts I could imagine from a guy who spoke practically no English, refused to wear a barbers vest and used no alcohol. Asked for a slight trim with no more than 2 centimeters taken off the side and left the chair with a Dominican Mohawk. Refuse to go back

Ricky has always done an amazing job with my hair. He really knows what works for me and always gets it just right. Every cut feels fresh, clean, and effortless. Super grateful for his skill and consistency!

Harry is the best in the game—no question about it.
He’s not just a barber, he’s a true artist with the clippers. Harry’s cut for some of the most elite clients out there—Wall Street and New York executives, Chicago power players, star athletes from the Houston Astros, and big names in the music world. His work speaks for itself, but what really sets him apart is who he is as a person.
Harry treats you like family. He’ll go out of his way to make sure you walk out feeling your absolute best. When I lived in Texas and later moved to Denver, I would literally fly back just to get a cut from him—that’s how serious it was. I don’t have hair anymore, but back when I did, no one else was touching it but Harry.
Even when I was broke, Harry still came through for me. He worked with me, made time, and never made me feel less than. Loyalty like that is rare. If you’ve got hair, trust me—get in his chair. You’ll never want another barber again.

My kid asked for a modern mullet and walked out with an Edgar. The barber just didn’t listen.” I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I’m going to make you look good.”
The only reason this isn’t a one star review is because the manager did the right thing when my wife called and had her bring him in for someone else to fix it. He doesn’t love it, but at least he no longer looks like he should be sagging and sporting a neck tattoo
Zero stars for cut. Three for the professionalism of management.

I’ve been going to Robert for haircuts for years. He nails my cut everytime. I’ve got a longer beard as well and always trust him to trim it exactly how I ask and get my lines nice and clean. You won’t find a better barber. A few times I’ve had to get a cut in a hurry and couldn’t book Robert, and booked a few other barbers at south austin barber shop. They all gave great cuts as well. Good shop all around!

SHED Barber and Supply Bouldin offers a genuinely comfortable and quality experience. The atmosphere feels welcoming, and the barbers demonstrate a clear commitment to detail. Finding a skilled barber can be tough, but the level of expertise displayed here makes it a worthwhile destination for a consistently excellent, well-executed haircut.

Saide at SHED is awesome! She did exactly what I asked, super good with long hair, and really friendly. She made sure I was happy with the cut—definitely recommend her!

Really great folks and really great haircut. I don’t really leave reviews unless I am outrageously displeased with a situation (like my last apartment where the ceiling collapsed, don’t even get me started ) but SHED and Adrian specifically deserve 5 stars. Incredibly thoughtful about the details, no rushing or distractions, and perfectly remembered my desired cut after only being there once before. Not only is Adrian masterful at all aspects of cutting hair, but he is also very kind and nice to talk to (and all other employees there from my brief interactions with them). Overall, a great barbershop and great energy.

Erika’s awesome! About a month ago (July 25) I went to her for a big chop — cut off around 9 inches going from pretty long to short-medium — and she did such a great job. I was nervous about the change but ended up loving it.
Came back today for a cleanup before my trip to Japan tomorrow and she did exactly what I asked for. I had told her before that I don’t really like fades, and she was great at listening and making sure the cut fit what I wanted. Quick, clean, and it looks great. Super easy to talk to and really listens to what you want. Definitely recommend her!

Valeria is my girl 100%! My past barber moved to Chicago and I had the concern of finding a regular person. Tried two other spots in Austin; I randomly went to SHED and met her and she is my girl completely for my cuts! Perfect fade EVERY TIME

Customer Reviews
I recently had another great experience with Alicia C. She is an incredibly efficient barber and stylist, consistently delivering outstanding haircuts and beard trims. She’s typically right on time with appointments, and even when things run slightly behind, she makes the most of her time to ensure a top-notch result. Her passion for her craft comes through in her work.
Alicia’s attention to detail, especially with a straight razor, is exceptional. Her work is truly a cut above.
However, I do want to mention an issue with the shop itself. The air conditioning has not worked for the past few months, and on my visit this Sunday, it was 80 degrees inside. It’s uncomfortable for both clients and staff, and with summer approaching, this needs urgent attention from Floyd’s management or the commercial lease team.

Used to be pretty good with almost no wait times and around $35.
Now the quality has dropped drastically and it’s hit or a miss just like at Sportsclip or other generic haircuts.
Used to be able to walk-in but not anymore, unfortunately.
I would go here unless there are no other reasonably priced places

I’ve been going to Betty at Floyd’s for more than three years and she is amazing! She quickly learned how to best treat my hair and after a few months I didn’t even have to say what treatments I wanted. A true professionaI! I always left satisfied. The rest of the staff are great as well. Well worth the price!

Madison Williams gives me the best haircuts of my life. I have long wavy hair, and she does precise dry cuts that work beautifully to bring out my waves. When she says the cut should last six months, she’s not kidding. I’ve seen her twice a year for 4 years now and I LOVE how my hair looks. I’ve recommended her to all of my wavy/curly friends!
I also really like the salon experience. Their process and space have both been thoughtfully designed with inclusiveness at the forefront. It’s a sleek, user-friendly, and calming experience from start to finish.
HIGHLY recommend this salon!

If I could give this place 6 stars, I absolutely would! Savannah did an amazing job with my color—it turned out beautifully. And as for Jim… he is truly THE BEST! I went in for a big chop, and he took the time to really assess my hair, carefully considering my 2a/3a (and everything in between!) curl pattern. He sculpted my hair with such precision and artistry—it’s honestly the best haircut I’ve had in a long time. Jim explained his technique, including why he used a razor to open up my curls, and gave me a step-by-step on how to style my new short look. I can’t say enough about how talented he is. Thank you so much, Jim! My hair looks incredible, and I feel amazing!

This place is awesome! The salon is gorgeous. A small but good thing to note was how comfy the hair washing bowls were, I’ve never truly been comfortable in one until here. I got my hair blown out by the new assistant Aubrey, and she was great! She was super easy and fun to talk to, and very quick with the styling. She also made sure that my hair was exactly how I like it, making me very comfortable. The people at the front desk were very kind and helpful too! Overall great experience!

On my first cut with Jace, he took the time to understand my hair’s weird texture and what I wanted, and did a custom cut that is easy to style but can also be polished with a blowout. Before pic is the one with the yellow shirt. At my second visit with him he NAILED it a second time, and yesterday I went back for my third and because I trusted him I let him do the curtain-y bangs he suggested and I love it! The vibe is relaxed at the salon and they don’t try to get you to buy products; just really really exceptionally good stylists who actually listen and work with instead of against your hair’s natural texture.

I had such a great experience with Kasey and Dylan! They did both my cut and color, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I came in really unsure about what color I wanted, but they took the time to listen to my ideas and talk me through options without ever making me feel rushed. Kasey and Dylan were so polite, patient, and genuinely kind throughout the whole process. They paid close attention to detail and made sure I was comfortable with each step. I left loving both my color and my cut—exactly what I was hoping for! I highly recommend Kasey and Dylan if you’re looking for someone who’s not only talented but also really cares about giving you the look you want.

I recently moved to Austin from NYC, where I’d been seeing the same stylists for years, so trying someone new felt a little nerve-wracking. I booked with Jenna for a single-process color and Jace for a cut, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They both did an incredible job, and I now feel confident knowing I’ve found trusted stylists here. Highly recommend!

Been seeing Andi for barbering the past few months and couldn’t be happier with the results. Andi always does a great job of listening to what you want and has the experience and skill to turn your feedback into something clean and stylish. Her fades are terrific – I also got my first beard trim from her recently and loved how it turned out! Would 1000% recommend Andi to anyone looking for an exceptional barber in Austin.

I’ve been going to Andi for about two years now, and I can honestly say I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. Every cut is clean, consistent, and exactly what I ask for. She really listens and somehow makes it even better than what I had in mind. The vibe is always relaxed, good conversation if you want it, and just an overall great experience. Highly recommend her if you’re looking for someone who actually cares about their craft.

Andi is a straight-up fade wizard. Super chill, fast hands, and the shop’s so clean you could eat off the floor (but don’t, just trust me). She hooked me up with a mid-drop fade that fits my face like it was custom-tailored. Location’s clutch too—I might ‘accidentally’ need a haircut every week just to hang out.

This is my 3rd time seeing Andi since moving to Austin and she’s become a barber I can trust completely.
She’s always on time to appointments and get’s the job done in 30-40 minutes. During the consultation phase, she listens really well and asks questions to ensure she knows what you want. During the cut, she does a good job with both clippers on the sides and scissors on the top. Haircuts always turn out well because she understands how hair lays, head shape, and cutting technique. Lastly, conversation is chill and professional.
In addition to a great cut, the barbershop itself is welcoming, clean, and enjoyable.

I’ve bounced around trying to find a barber who actually knows how to cut curly hair, and Honest Barber finally nailed it. Had a cut with Kirk and he was awesome — super laid-back, easy to talk to, and just really damn good at what he does. Best cut I’ve had in a long time.
The shop has a great vibe too. Clean, not pretentious, just solid quality work in a chill space. I’m officially a regular now. Highly recommend checking it out — especially if you’ve had trouble finding someone who gets curly hair. Kirk’s your guy.

I’ve been going to Honest Barber for a while now – a couple of years? – and it’s a pretty great place. Everyone is cool there, you can tell people are happy to get their hair cut from their person and it’s isn’t crazy expensive. I go to Travis and I’ve never been disappointed, or less than completely satisfied. He’s got a great, laid-back vibe, easy to talk to and knows what he’s doing. Just got one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had — and that’s saying something coming from a guy who travels the world for a living. On only my second day in Austin, I found this gem. Cassy has been cutting my hair for probably close to 5 years here at this shop. Not only is she always ensuring that she meets my desire for my haircut and beard trim, she is always extremely friendly and enthusiastic when I’m in her chair. Not only have I found an exceptional barber in her services, I have also found a friend. If you’re looking for a top tier barbershop, Barbon’s is the place to be. If you’re also looking for a gem of a human being and borderline therapist, look no further than Cassy.

What an absolute pleasure it was to visit Barbon’s! Gun Kim was my barber and gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. First time in Ana Jones cut my hair.
Ana is a samurai of her craft, she understand the importance of growth, communication and empathy.
All issues I’ve struggled with in the past with my barber. There’s lots of skilled people in this industry in Austin but their attitude and character stands in the way of them exceeding their previous best.
I really appreciated her approach to my cut, super talented barber and an incredibly warm and strong presence.
Thank you Ana Jones!

I’ve been going to skinny’s for 7 years and wouldn’t recommend any other shop. Every barber has a great skill set and is incredibly talented. John’s been cutting my hair for 5 years at this point and every time I walk out with an excellent cut.

Miss Debbie is amazing. She’s very skilled with great service I haven’t experienced anywhere else. Very communicative and walks you through the cut as she does it so you know you’re getting what you want. Moving to a new city and finding a new barber can be tough but if you book here, you won’t have to find another shop.

I go here about once a month, my barber’s Austin. He’s been cutting my hair for over a year now and I don’t go to anyone else. He does quality, consistent work every single time. Drop on by and he’ll get you straight.
Real cool little place too, good vibes and good people.

Just had my second cut at The Good Life Barbershop and I couldn’t be happier. Parker James really understood what I was going for from the start and delivered exactly what I wanted—both times. He’s got a great attention to detail and really takes his time to get it right without dragging things out. The cut looks sharp, feels clean, and I’ve gotten a bunch of compliments already. I found this place after my old shop closed, and I’m glad I did. Super convenient location, easy parking, and overall a great experience. Highly recommend this shop!

Very cool place! Always love visiting a cool new speakeasy. The bar is a little small on the inside, but has a great selection of local and non-local beers. Came here after work with a coworker and it’s a nice little underground spot – definitely not too crowded and an easy vibe inside. Would recommend checking it out! (and getting a cut)

Great little speakeasy tucked away downstairs. Good selection of craft beer. Local Sale was a fun bonus. Small spot so don’t plan on a big crowd. Good service and very chill. Bring a couple friends and start a night here for sure.

After moving into town, looked for a barber shop that would deliver without the hype (or fluff).
I visited several different shops before committing to an appointment: from the luxury higher end (membership type) to a few smaller places in salon parks.
Really wanted a place that I’d look forward to coming in every three weeks and keep groomed. When I walked in, the place and atmosphere reminded me of the old school straight blade barbers growing up. Made an appointment and it delivered.
Flight (Fabian) will make sure you look your best, easy going and relaxed. Never had Heli or Dakota but they do great work and I’d recommend them also. Online scheduling and updates from Flight when running behind schedule shows the commitment to service their customers.
Skilled barbers who love what they do, always a good atmosphere and a good selection of craft drinks while you wait.

Yo ATX…you found the spot – stop looking. BB ATX is the one. From the moment you walk-in you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Everyone is so nice and chill – every person walks out looking like a million bucks! The nice chill fun vibe with leather chairs, perfect music and yes actual barber chairs. Mr. Fabian “Flight” Bailey sends me out the door with the exact cut I wanted and best of all – the smile and laughter set you straight all day until someone says, “hey there – nice haircut” – then you are on Cloud 9. Book. Go. Enjoy. Just don’t take my spot – just kidding – I know how to book early! The image is from Happy Days – Fonzie’s hair was his pride and joy! Now you know!

Just moved to Austin and was in the market for a new barber! Kotah came highly recommended and for good reason. He’ll 100% be my barber moving forward. He gave me a great haircut and a clean fade & straight razor lineup. I highly recommend this shop & Kotah. He’s a super nice and solid dude that had me leaving feeling confident!

I’ve been going here since 2017 and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Especially Fabian- he’s the best. I love that you don’t feel like they are rushing through people. I think it is impossible to get a haircut you don’t like here.

I’ve been to this barbershop twice so far — first with Chris and then with Fabian — and both times I walked out with exactly the haircut I wanted. I really appreciate how they ask for all the details up front, making sure they understand what you’re going for. That attention always shows in the final result.
The conversations are always engaging, and the vibe is relaxed and friendly. On top of that, the haircut always comes out looking sharp. Definitely my go-to spot now, especially since I live nearby!

Catalog of services offered by barber shops in Austin
Classic Haircuts
Barber shops in Austin are well-known for providing classic haircuts. These often include tapered sides, a clean neckline, and attention to detail that creates a timeless and polished look. The skill involves understanding hair texture and face shape.
Straight Razor Shaves
A hallmark of traditional barber shops is the straight razor shave. This is a meticulous process that involves hot towels, pre-shave oils, and careful attention to the contours of the face to achieve a smooth and comfortable shave, often followed by aftershave balm.
Beard Trims and Shaping
Maintaining a well-groomed beard requires expertise. Barber shops provide beard trims and shaping services, which include trimming, sculpting, and outlining beards to create defined shapes and a neat appearance.
Hot Towel Treatments
Many barber shops offer hot towel treatments as part of their services. These treatments help to soften the hair follicles, open pores, and provide a relaxing experience, often improving the effectiveness of shaving or beard grooming.
Scalp Massages
Beyond just hair services, barber shops often provide scalp massages. These promote hair health by increasing blood circulation to the scalp, which can stimulate hair growth and provide a soothing sensation.
Hair Designs and Fades
For those seeking more contemporary styles, barber shops offer hair designs and fades. These involve blending hair lengths gradually to create a seamless transition, and often incorporate intricate patterns or designs for a personalized look.
Kids’ Haircuts
Barber shops understand that children’s haircuts need a patient approach. They offer kids’ haircuts tailored to children's needs, focusing on safety and creating styles suitable for young ones and keeping them entertained during the process.
Grey Blending and Touch-Ups
For individuals with grey hair, barber shops provide grey blending and touch-ups. This service blends grey hairs with the surrounding hair to create a more subtle and natural look, maintaining style and confidence.
Frequently Asked Questions about Barber Shops in Austin
What is the difference between a barber shop and a salon?
While both offer grooming services, a barber shop traditionally focuses on men's haircuts, straight razor shaves, and beard trims. Salons typically cater to a broader range of services including women’s cuts, styling, coloring, and often nail care. Austin barber shops, however, often blend these services, but the core focus generally remains men's traditional grooming.
How much do haircuts typically cost at Austin barber shops?
Haircut prices at Austin barber shops can vary significantly depending on the location, barber's experience, and the services included. Generally, expect to pay between $25 to $50 for a basic haircut. More specialized services like beard sculpting or straight razor shaves will likely increase the price. It’s always a good idea to check the shop’s price list beforehand.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Many popular Austin barber shops are very busy, and it’s often best to book an appointment in advance. Some shops accept walk-ins, but wait times can be significant, especially on weekends. Check the shop’s website or social media for information on appointment booking and walk-in policies. Scheduling online is becoming increasingly common.
What types of beard services are offered?
Austin barber shops offer a wide range of beard services, including beard trims, shaping, line-ups, and beard oil application. Some shops specialize in more intricate beard designs and sculpting. Many also offer beard grooming packages that combine multiple services. It's beneficial to inquire about specific techniques and styles offered.
Are straight razor shaves still a common service?
Yes, straight razor shaves are a popular and traditional service offered at many Austin barber shops. This classic grooming ritual provides a close and comfortable shave. These services usually involve a hot towel treatment, pre-shave oil, and post-shave balm, enhancing the overall experience. Expect to pay a higher price for this specialized service.
How can I find reputable barber shops in Austin?
Finding a reputable barber shop involves checking online reviews on platforms like Google, Yelp, and Facebook. Also look at their social media presence for photos of their work and client testimonials. Ask friends and family for recommendations, and consider visiting the shop to observe the atmosphere and cleanliness before booking an appointment.
What should I do to prepare for my barber shop appointment?
To make the most of your appointment, wash and dry your hair beforehand. Think about the style you want and have reference pictures ready to show your barber. Be prepared to discuss your hair and beard goals openly with your barber to ensure a satisfying result. Communicate clearly about your preferences.
What is the difference between a fade and a taper?
While both involve shortening hair gradually, a fade is a more dramatic and abrupt transition from short to long, creating a distinct line. A taper is a gentler, more gradual reduction in hair length, often softer and less defined. Understanding this difference will help you communicate your desired style clearly.
How often should I get a haircut?
The frequency of haircuts depends on your hairstyle, hair growth rate, and personal preference. Generally, men with shorter hairstyles may need cuts every 4 to 6 weeks, while those with longer styles can go longer between appointments. Regular trims help maintain the shape and health of your hair.
What should I look for in a barber shop's hygiene practices?
Good hygiene practices are essential. A reputable barber shop should use clean and sanitized tools for each client, use disposable capes, and maintain a clean and organized environment. Pay attention to the shop's overall cleanliness and observe whether the barbers are following proper sanitation protocols.
