Cannot recommend these guys enough! Super personable, music was on point, adapted to what we wanted, just killer service. The bartenders asked to come back, and all offered us free shots. Can’t guarantee that, but don’t suck and it’ll happen! Highly recommend Papa J!

My friend and I was in town for a long weekend. We researched city tours. We choose the pedal assist city tour. Our guide was named Michael. He was great. He was full of knowledge at each stop. The tour covers a lot of ground so wear good shoes and get good night’s sleep before tour. They provide the water. Sign up was fast and easy. Communication was good before tour. They even kept a swim bag for us so we didn’t have to Uber back to hotel to get it after tour. Tip- Barton Springs is close by for a dip in the natural springs. Perfect for a cool down after the tour.

The electric bike tour was very enjoyable. My tour guide Michael was lovely and clearly enjoyed doing what he does. He was very detailed in explaining each spot we stopped at, sometimes also adding little story-times about this statue, that mural, etc. He also stops for photo opportunities (which I think are the most important part of bike tours 😀 )
Duration was almost exactly 2.5 hours which was perfect for me. It was nice learning a lot about Austin in just one morning.

Fantastic E-Bike Tour!
This e-bike tour was a great experience from start to finish. Eric handled the intake and setup with a goofy, lighthearted approach, which made the process easy and enjoyable. He was also really accommodating when I requested a step-through bike, making sure everything was adjusted just right.
Peter led the tour at a comfortable pace, balancing great information with plenty of time to take in the scenery. He clearly knows his stuff and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was engaged and comfortable throughout the ride.
The route was well-planned, the e-bikes made it effortless, and the whole experience was well worth it. Highly recommend!

I had an absolute blast exploring Austin with Michael as my bike tour guide – his knowledge and enthusiasm made for an unforgettable experience despite being the only 1!
Michael’s insider tips and hidden gems showed me a “weird” side of the city I never would have discovered on my own.
Really cool to learn about LBJ, the river, Jo’s and of course the bats!

Updated Review!!
These are simply rebranded products, with no components actually owned by Mod Bikes. The quality is bad, especially considering the expensive price, and you can find all the same parts for less on Amazon.
I tested this repair shop by spending money to see their service quality with a deaf customer and their understanding of bike culture. For $400, instead of a proper repair and upper fix, they just cut the brake sensor wire and used plastic tape, while charging me for a complete brake lever assembly. They didn’t even check the brakes or do any tune-up, then wanted more money for more hours. When I opted for a new gear, they installed the cheapest, uncoated silver one, which failed within a month. A proper black metal gear solved the problem. Then, I found the brake fluid dangerously low a month later – something they ignored during the tune-up I paid for. Now they want $200 for a simple brake fluid fix. That’s outrageous for just bleeding the brakes! Why would I aggressively bleed them when a slow approach saves fluid and parts? This feels like another car repair scam, and you’ve lost me as a customer. Your bike mechanics desperately need customer service training.
One star. Sorry, Mike Cherches for email and trying make better after you saw my review hahaha but your condescending attitude won’t work here. I think Mod Bikes has brainwashed you into pushing their agenda on customers for profit.
There are countless complaints about this online. For Mod Bikes customers: Don’t be fooled; Mod Bikes isn’t a true Austin local business.

Cannot recommend enough. Thank you MOD Squad. I have owned my Easy 3 for about 5-6 weeks now. I’m so glad I went with a local brand after sifting through the endless list on no-name e-bike companies.
The Easy 3 is a joy to ride, smooth, stylish and comfortable. It handles city traffic and potholes like a boss and boogies up my hilly neighborhood. The highlight however is the customer support and service. They took my bad situation and made the most of it.
The sales team are knowledgeable, transparent, helpful and all around cool people. Shout out Marcos and Jeremy.
My bike was stolen after 3 weeks and a good samaritan was able to report the serial number into MOD for recovery.
(BUY A LOCK AND ALL THE SECURITY FEATURES!)
The service department made my bike whole again after the theft and damage and again went above and beyond after a tire puncture. Shout out to Tim for keeping me mobile.
And for Austin residents, my Austin Energy rebate took about 4.5 weeks to process so now just waiting on them to cut the check.
Thanks MOD

I absolutely love this bike. It’s the coolest bike I’ve ever owned. I’ve rode over 100 miles so far . It’s super comfortable. The motor is very powerful. I’ve gone up some super steep hills with a smile. My longest ride so far was 35 miles I could have easily gone farther.
I could not resist the rack. It matches the wooden Groove detail on the frame, awesome. It has a convenient quick release design and is very sturdy. I zip tied a milk crate on. My things have been very secure at top speeds!
The service with Mod bikes is exceptional. My history with these guys is why I wanted one of their really cool bikes in the first place. They serviced my first electric bike for roughly 3000 miles of brakes and things. Already they fixed an adjustment issue I was having with my Groove for free! I now have a warranty.
They always do great work. It is obvious they love what they do. Thanks

Purchased the Mod City 3 folding bike as I don’t have a lot of room to store a bike and I wanted to be able to haul it in my van which doesn’t have a hitch for a bike rack. I’m also on the bigger side, 6’4″ 240lbs. My research brought to Mod Bikes and I couldn’t be happier with the City 3. The bike fits me perfectly, is very comfortable to ride and the power is terrific. I’m happy with my decision, the sales and service has been excellent! If you’re looking for an eBike, especially a folding one, I highly recommend Mod Bikes and the City 3 folding bike.

I don’t even know how to put in words how exceptional the customer service is at Mod Bikes. Truly incredible.
I had been eyeing the Easy for years and finally pulled the trigger after test riding one at their shop. Every guy working there was kind and knowledgeable and it was just an all around great experience. I have been riding the bike every day since I picked it up and the joy this has brought me is stupid. I find myself smiling as I’m riding around town.
The bike itself is a bit heavy for a petite gal but after a couple of days I figured out how to handle it (needed to lower my seat more than planned). The battery lasts a long time which could be because I don’t use the throttle too often but I really love that I don’t have to worry about it. I love how eye catching it is and everything has been great.
I have had a few questions and when I called the shop and they didn’t answer they got right back to me. Seriously, top notch customer service. They never make me feel dumb for my silly newbie questions. I also love that there is a shop in town so I can take my bike in whenever I need. I will be a Mod Bike ride forever. If you need a sign to purchase a bike from them, this is it.

Our recent electric bike tour was fantastic, and it was all thanks to our incredible guide, Rooster! From the moment we met him, Rooster radiated warmth and kindness, making us feel instantly comfortable and excited for the adventure ahead.
He was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the area, sharing fascinating insights and fun facts, but he also made sure everyone in our group felt safe and confident on their bikes. Rooster’s amazing demeanor and genuine enthusiasm were contagious, turning what could have been just a simple tour into a truly memorable experience.

Fun Informative and Easy-Going Tour – We could not be more impressed with this tour. Some of us have never rode an E-bike before and were a little nervous about maneuvering the bike. Rooster did a wonderful job making sure we were all comfortable with riding it before we left the parking lot. While on the road, he was very clear in directions (through a walkie talky) and made sure our entire group of 13 made it through stop lights and cross sections safely. The stops were great highlights of Austin and very informative. The cherry on top is the music!! Rooster has a great sense of humor, is super personable, and is articulate. We HIGHLY recommend this tour !!!

Rooster was a real pleasure to have as our tour guide. In addition to his extensive knowledge of Austin’s history, he is well known around town—people were honking and waving since he is so well-known. If you’re in town, give this tour a try you’ll be in for a good time.

I came into dogspeed on a recommendation from a friend. When I came in I was immediately worried that the display bikes seemed fewer than most bike shops. I talked to Jacob about what I was looking for and he quickly went through what sizing I would need for my smaller frame and colors I would enjoy. We picked out a frame that would fit me and he said he would build a bike and send me a photo of it soon. After this interaction I left not even knowing if he was actually going to follow up so I went to another bike shop on south Lamar. It was very sales focused and I could tell I was just another sale to them. Sure enough the following Monday morning Jacob sent me a photo of my DREAM bike. We had only discussed in theory. He put on the exact tires, frame, and even handle bars I was looking for. He did this all so fast and friendly. This man is passionate about bikes and it shows. Incredible customer service and I couldn’t be more happy. To Jacob the bike wizard, thank you so much! I am very happy and will be back. Don’t miss out on this one of a kind shop!

I brought my bike here earlier this month to fix a flat. On my e-bike Less than a few weeks later, the same tire went flat again. When I called, instead of standing by their work or even checking if it was an issue with the last repair, I was told I’d have to pay the full price for a replacement tire. No warranty, no accountability.
A reputable shop should at least inspect and stand behind recent service especially when the problem happens so soon after. Instead, I got the feeling they just don’t value customers.
If you value your money and your bike, I’d recommend taking it somewhere else that actually cares about repeat customers.

Great coffee and unique spot to do work or connect with a friend . It’s definitely one of those “keep Austin weird” places that defies the chain coffee shops. I always love to support local small businesses.
The barista was knowledgeable and friendly. My coffee was a fun combo of mocha and horchata – the type of mix I’d be tempted to create myself but in this case, was a house special. Snacks looked fresh and delicious, including pastries and kolaches.

Wheelchair Tire Repair – Lifesaver!
Visited this shop during a trip and had an urgent wheelchair issue after my flight- a flat tire on my wheelchair! The owner was incredibly helpful and got me fixed up quickly with a new tube. It’s so awesome to find a bike shop with that classic ‘can-do’ attitude – something Ive missed in many places back in California.
Even bought a T-shirt as a souvenir! Highly recommend this place for wheelchair repairs. Plus, grab a coffee nearby while you wait – perfect setup.

Call and ask for a quote before showing up to this shop. They will quote you different prices on the phone vs in-person. (They will try and rip you off)
If you need a scooter tire replaced, I’d recommend bringing it to any auto-mechanic and offering them $40-50 bucks.

We had such a fantastic time on our Austin bike tour with Rooster! I was visiting with two of my girlfriends, and from start to finish he made the experience fun, engaging, and full of local insight. His knowledge of Austin’s history and culture ran deep, and he shared it in a way that was both entertaining and memorable.
What really impressed us was his kindness and professionalism—he even stopped to assist someone who needed quick medical attention, handled it with ease, and made sure everyone in the group stayed safe and comfortable. He kept us hydrated with waters, encouraged us throughout the ride, and always kept the vibe upbeat and fun.
If you’re looking for an activity-based way to explore Austin, I couldn’t recommend this bike tour (and Rooster!) more highly. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, learning, and laughter.

Did the 2.5 bike tour with Trey as our guide. He was super knowledgeable about all of the landmarks we saw, including detailed history and local trivia. Riding in downtown Austin was nice and chill and the bikes were well up to the task.

Went on a fabulous bike tour along with about 30 colleagues on a work trip. Trey was our guide, and he provided so many detailed, fascinating bits of Austin history. This was a fantastic bike tour! We did the 2.5 hour tour with Trey. We had signed up for the Icons tour but they were only doing the Murals tour that day. Ended up working out great- Trey threw in lots of history along the way. He really knows his stuff and was so fun to listen to his stories and knowledge! The process to get fitted for bikes was quick and easy. Trey took care to make sure we were all comfortable on our bikes and had a fun playlist of local Austin bands to listen to along the way. He even provided tips for great music venues to check out afterwards. The tour exceeded our expectations and we can’t wait to come back and do another one!

As a lifelong cycling enthusiast, visiting Lance Armstrong’s Mellow Johnny Bike Shop was a bucket list item. Matthew was very friendly and answered questions readily. Jacob was very knowledgeable and friendly on all things Lance and cycling. Seeing all the Lance Armstrong memorabilia and extensive information that was prominently posted was a really cool treat for me. The only way the visit could have been cooler was if we could’ve met Lance. Still, it was a great experience.

Came in for a simple innertube purchase ($30 for 3 innertubes so not a huge purchase at all) and replacement. Asked if I could do it myself as I was short on scratch. These cosumate gentlemen helped me get my proper innertubes and let me replace it myself there in the store. They even loaned me their air pump afterwards. While I will assume that the entire staff is this kind and considerate I would definitely suggest Jack at the repair center in the back as he was my hero today. Many tha KS guys you have new steady customer and I have my new local bike store. Highly recommend.

Had a Retül Fit done here and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The staff were friendly and professional, and the shop has a great atmosphere with everything well organized. Brant took time to understand my riding style and goals, then used the Retül system to make precise adjustments for comfort, efficiency, and control. Most importantly, the store lives up to its name and the brands it carries, giving you peace of mind with every purchase—they stand behind their products with solid guarantees. Hats off to Dan and Mr. Black for their recent assistance.
Need anything bike-related? It’s a no-brainer: go to Mellow Johnny’s. I’ve been a regular since 2010.

Stopped in to check if they had a part and said the cheaper the better. They didn’t unfortunately, but I wasn’t surprised as it was fairly outdated bike technology. The service guy still checked through their inventory and found something that was close to what I needed, but not quite. He pointed me to another shop that would likely have what I need. I was very pleasantly surprised with my experience after some subpar interactions at a different Austin bike shop. I would definitely return here for service/parts in the future.
Prices for tires, etc seemed pretty reasonable compared to other bike shops in austin. A few bucks more than Amazon, but nothing outrageous. Definitely worth it for the convenience and expertise.

Brought in my TT bike in a pinch to get a tune up, replacement cassette & chain, and travel case for a race up North. Everyone that helped me was incredibly accommodating and friendly. Not only did they provide very quick turnaround on everything, but they provided me a great price on my cassette that is less common nowadays. Premium service – will be my go-to bike shop from here on.

Came in for a brake pad replacement. Very quick service, was in and out within 15 min.
I did like the old space more as it had a charming character and a coffee shop. This new location is more convenient for everyone though. Especially quick access from the trail.
I will be bringing my bike back here for future tuneups. They also have bikes for rent.

It was 70 and Sunny but believe it or not the weather was only part of the fun. My wife and I celebrated her Birthday with our guide Jake. He was fantastic! Very laid back but had some good tunes on his portable speaker of local Austin bands and showed us around the city and taught us about some of the history between some really tasty brews. It was pretty much a perfect day. Great ride not too far but still a ride to burn a few calories before we carbo loaded with another beer. Total distance was about 7 miles. I would do it again.

We had Jake for our tour, and he was great!!! All of his recommendations for the breweries and taco spots were SPOT on. I could not recommend this tour, and Jake more.
This was the most fun we’ve had in a long time. If you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, don’t worry! It’s not too bad and it doesn’t even feel like you’re riding for that long.
10/10, I would do this again.

Customer Reviews
Purchased two Aventon adventure.2 step through fat wheel bikes fully kitted out about 5 months ago, they’ve been great. Managed to get the Austin electric rebate, which the Surf Co folks helped out with, so the bikes were a good deal (although Aventon’s accessory’s, like mirrors & saddle bags & straps, etc are cheap plastic that break, go with a third party with metal/higher quality materials). Surf Co has also let me drop by and fill up my tires on my scooters (purchased elsewhere) for free, and given good advice on maintenance. Highly recommend this place. If you’re in doubt about an ebike, scooter, etc., just keep weighing the pros/cons and I bet you’ll eventually buy :D. These toys are so much fun and you don’t have to worry about parking, or gas, or insurance…

I had a fantastic experience today getting my electric scooter serviced. My back tire needed to be replaced, and the employee who helped me (Rourke) took care of everything. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help me get back on the road the same day.
Even though the store was shorthanded, Rourke went out of his way to make sure the work was completed because I don’t live in the area and would have had to return weeks later to pick it up. He quoted me a fair and accurate price upfront, and delivered exactly as promised.
This level of service and dedication really stood out. I’ll be coming back here for all of my EV needs in the future—highly recommend this great local business!

I had an amazing experience with the customer service at electric surf! I bought my Aventon Abound e-bike a couple of months ago for me and my toddler, and I couldn’t be happier. Ford was absolutely fantastic—super welcoming, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to help me find the perfect bike and installing my add-on. Highly recommend this shop.

The delivery took more than 2 weeks, and in the end, I received the wrong helmet. One of the employees assured me that this was a normal delivery time, although when I called earlier, another person from this store admitted that something was indeed wrong and that the delivery service was taking unusually long to pick up the item from the store.
I order a lot of products online, and I’ve never experienced such slow delivery before — even items from Hawaii arrive much faster. I do not recommend buying from this store online.

Jeron and Ford were so welcoming and kind. They showed me every e-bike in their lineup and made sure that I was able to try each and every one of them to make sure I found the right e-bike for me. They even offered me water since it was super hot outside. Excellent customer service by both gentleman…

Chill spot for boards and bikes.
Perfect spot to go in and see Ford and Roak for your next or first adventure toy or any new mods you’d be looking to make.
The guys were great and helped me decide on my onewheel XR Classic w/recurved rails as well as install the add ons in house! Very professional and both employees were very informative during the time I was in the shop.
The product came exactly as stated and was already 50% charged.
Huge thanks to electric surf for the new set up! The Adventure starts now!

The annual BOTE shopping spree for my birthday does not disappoint as a fun experience. I am a huge BOTE addict who drives from Fort Worth each year to Austin for this. Such great customer service, outstanding products and just love the vibe in their store. Now to find where my new board inflatables, Mule cart, bags, apparels, towels and so many other accessories will go in the house. lol
I will definitely be back!

First time in and I wish I would have known about this place sooner. They have ingenious ways to solve the issues we all have when taking to the water with all our gear. If you are looking for a float or a paddle board, this is place it head to first. They think quality and solution orientation first. The Austin staff were amazing, we went in to check it and they friendly and helpful.

This is a great store with a perfect vibe for Austin and the active water lifestyle. Justin and his team are so knowledgeable and helpful. Bote’ has the best boards and also thr most innovative accessories and magnet ports to keep your thermous from spilling. Also the floating docs and beaches and even a living toom flr the water.
Justins totally authentic about the products because he’s also a big customer. He’e become an icon on Ladybird Lake. Some have nicknamed him the McConaughey of the lake. Just seeing him out there on his Bote’ with his fishing gear and all operating it all and living the life is lime the best ad for it. And shows you all you can do. Central casting coildnt cast a better actor or model to show off the Bote’ life.
In the store he’s the same person and always finds a way to help the customer. He’s always training the staff to be the same way. The one time i had a small issue with a staff member on a question, Justin found out and listened to my issue and then swiftly resolved it and followed up. And he jas this attitude with the team thats refreshing. He says youre gonna make a mistake but its okay. We’ll learn from it and show the customer we’re totally serious about their Bote’ life too. Makes you want to hang out there.

What should I do if the bike I rent has a mechanical issue?
If you encounter a mechanical issue with the bike you’re renting, the first step is to immediately contact the rental shop. Explain the problem clearly and request assistance. They should be prepared to provide a repair or offer a replacement bike. Document the issue with photos or videos if possible, which can be helpful in case of disputes.
