Uncommon Objects – A Treasure Hunt Like No Other
Absolutely worth the drive — Uncommon Objects lives up to its name and then some. Every inch of the space is packed with bizarre, beautiful, curious, and one-of-a-kind finds. It feels like stepping into a museum curated by the world’s most interesting collector, but everything is for sale.
You’ll find vintage oddities, antique pieces, art, taxidermy, ephemera — stuff you didn’t know you needed until you saw it. The layout is thoughtful, the vibe is eclectic and welcoming, and the staff is helpful without hovering.
If you love the weird, the rare, and the storied, this place is a must. One of the coolest shopping experiences in Texas.

I came to Austin for an AI internship this summer. Just finished my first week and started my first weekend. I arrived at Uncommon Objects on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and stepping inside felt like walking into the attic of the world’s most fascinating collector.
This antique store isn’t just a shop—it’s a curated maze of the bizarre and beautiful. From the life-sized giraffe statue greeting you at the entrance to a surreal taxidermy goat dressed as a Victorian officer, every corner has something that stops you in your tracks. I spotted wooden eggs, turtle shells, preserved reptiles in jars, and even a mummified animal foot. A little unsettling—but mesmerizing.
Some displays felt like time capsules: vintage figurines of Chinese deities sat beside Dutch maidens and porcelain dishes. Others leaned into the strange and whimsical—a giant rabbit loomed over shoppers like a mascot of eccentricity. The store layout invites exploration, with each booth revealing a new personality and era.
It’s not a place to “just shop”—it’s an experience. You’ll leave wondering if you visited a museum, a curiosity cabinet, or a dream. I didn’t buy anything, but I left with a dozen stories. This is one of Austin’s weirdest and most wonderful treasures.

This antique mall is chalk full of really nifty objects. The vendors all have quality items, and the way everything is displayed by color is pretty cool. I may not shop here again though. The prices (even though most are in fairly good condition) are outrageous, beyond what I am personally willing to pay.
I’m not saying “don’t go” or “stay away.” It’s just not a place for me. It was fun to walk around and browse the beautifully artful way the entire store is set up.

Uncommon Objects is my favorite place to go for unique gifts and embellishments to create jewelry/purses.
I’m also a collector of letters and photos and find many of my collectables here.
When my husband and mother were alive, I often purchased their gifts here. My mother was Roman Catholic and loved religious items and my husband, the opposite, loved occult items. I easily found gifts for both of them here.
If you’re an interior designer looking for beautiful stage pieces, this should definitely be one of your first stops!
Wonderful place with wonderful folks.
Looking for unique gifts? Uncommon Objects is the place to go.

Foi o melhor antiquário que já visitei em todos os tempos! É imenso, mas dividido em pequenos ambientes. Os objetos são muitas vezes organizados por cores. Há uma variedade muito grande e os preços são justos. Vale a pena a visita. É muito fácil de estacionar e os proprietários são muito simpáticos.

Room Service Vintage is such a gem! I found a few things I absolutely loved, from unique home decor to some great artwork. While they have some cool vintage clothing, the real highlights are the furniture, lamps, and fun little collectibles. Prices are fair, and the staff is genuinely kind and helpful. It’s totally worth a visit. A perfect spot for a vintage shopping day!

One of Austin’s most diverse and kitchy vintage stores. It’s a rambling space with clothing, furniture, decorations, and accessories.
There are several great bars and other vintage stores nearby. They have parking along the street and more on adjacent streets.

One of a kind treasures. The vibe was amazing. You can tell they took their time with picking the items to sell and in my opinion everything was appropriately priced for the most part. Adding this to my top 5 favorites!

This was my favorite vintage and thrift shop in North Loop Austin, TX. It had clothing, jewelry, accessories, furniture, art, home goods, and just about anything else you could think of. There was a small clown section. Lots of animal figurines. A massive shell pendant and the chain was made of human hair (and that wasn’t even the only item that included human hair as a focal point). What more could you ask for?

Chad was so helpful! I am from Houston and found the chair of my dreams but I drive a small car. He helped me maneuver to get the chair into my car to take home. Also- pricing here is so good compared to the price of vintage and antique stores in Houston. Definitely worth going in!

Pretty large place with a cool assortment of things and very well maintained/clean. I disagree with the folks saying it was reasonably priced for a vintage store, it’s a bit on the pricey side but not incredibly expensive. It’s vintage store austin prices. You’ll lose track of time in here! Even if it’s just casually browsing, there’s so many little trinkets you’ll find yourself looking at.

This store is actually magical! You are greeted by 2 beautiful kind German Shepards and offered Apple Tea or Turkish coffee upon arrival. Erdem is so friendly and helpful! He helped me try out over 30 bulbs for my floor lamp until we found the perfect combination. He worked with my budget and made sure the lamp was secure and safe for the travel home! I also learned about Turkish culture while I was there! Highly recommend checking this place out and taking advantage of the magic!!

Had a great first experience visiting this store and interacting with Huseyin. He was very friendly and showed me everything I was looking for until I found the piece that spoke to me the most. Negotiations were friendly and reasonable, and I ended up walking out with a second rug that I wasn’t necessarily looking to get that day because I was so impressed by the quality and value of their inventory. Was exceedingly impressed to learn about their exchange policy for rugs purchased from them, takes away much of the anxiety about how you will like the rugs once they are in your home.
Can’t wait to come back and shop again!

Amazing furniture and home furnishings. If you are looking for a specific vintage aesthetic, this is the place to go. Solid prices and good quality. There is also a clothing section in back. Also priced well, but the selection is a bit lack luster. There is a clear amount of passion put into this store, making it a premiere destination.

The best selection in town, new treasures every time I’m in. The owner, Nate, is as unique and interesting as the items in his store. It’s clear he really loves what he does. Is this store for everyone? No, and that’s ok. But if you love beautiful, unique, and rare items (and you don’t require a sterile, boring store), then go check it out. As the former owner of a vintage store I know how difficult it is to manage the chaos and display items in an aesthetically pleasing way. Nate and his employees do a fantastic job!

Dismal. It looks like an episode of hoarders inside. Dirty, dusty, covered in cob webs and pest droppings. The front display is entirely sleazy porn from the 70s. It’s extremely uncomfortable and hazardous to walk through there. You can barely browse. I kept having to catch things because they would fall when you would get close to the shelves. The items are all priced with a hoarder’s delusion as in they aren’t priced and you have to send texts and wait for the verdict. The price setter is the type that watches too much Pawn Stars and Storage Wars so all of the prices are ludicrous. The poor shop boy they have buried at the front can’t offer reasonable prices as much as he seems to want to. I feel bad for him but $14 for a moldy beanie baby without tags has sealed his fate. Eventually he’s going to get trapped under a cave in of junk. I hope he has 911 on speed dial.

Pretty neat little place. It was a lot smaller / more restricted than I expected on the inside but there were still some items to look at. I didn’t think to ask for pricing, there were no tags. Staff were pretty friendly.

This thrift store does have safety hazards as items are unorganized categories and merchandise piled up to the literal ceilings. Customers be aware that if you go through anything in the store, there is broken glass, years of dust, and uncleaned muck on everything. If you don’t mind being dirty or taking the time to search, you might find some good items. The pricing is given on the spot as nothing has price tags. Shopkeepers were not negotiable at all. In addition, two-thirds of the store was closed due to inventory, so we couldn’t see even half of the store.

I do understand that this place is filled but that’s what makes it so much fun to dig through to find treasures! They sell to you for affordable prices and are friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t recommend this place for a number of reasons.
There was racist black Americana memorabilia – they were selling mammie figurines??? (Look it up!! – insane that they thought it would be okay to even put that on the floor for sale)
From the moment I walked in, I noticed it was disorganized and overwhelming. I saw in their replies to reviews that they’ve been open for 25 years – no kidding… it seems like they’ve been collecting things for that long and never got rid of anything.
They don’t have price tags on ANYTHING – assuming they just make up prices as they go?
Not sure what’s going on here or how they’re even open still, but there are way better antique/thrift stores nearby.

A hidden treasure trove I literally stumbled upon after leaving Recycled Reads. It’s true that it is a small store and you’ll have to do some digging to see what’s in the back, but there are truly some treasures even in that front row. Hours are limited, but it’s worth the trip to see some vintage Coca-Cola and gold decor. The family has some heart and it’s very clear to see. Pricing is reasonable and fair – I left with this stunning German tin box that I stumbled upon. Would love to stop by again!

Incredible selection with reasonable prices! While they do have some vintage clothing, the real gems here are the furniture, art, and other little knickknacks for the home (lamps, tables, collectibles, etc). I have always been curious about this shoppe. I wandered in on a Sunday afternoon and was greeted friendly by the female clerk. I was curious if they had any Simpsons stuff, as I am a collector. She informed me they did not, but was kind enough to give me a pamphlet with all the thrift stores around town. I felt that was a kind gesture and I would not hesitate to visit here again in the future , when I have extra spending money.

We visited Armstrong’s House of Vintage recently and it was amazing! Allison was so kind and funny during our shopping experience. I was loving her banter and how much fun she was having picking pictures for the various lockets she had available. I go to lots of vintage stores in Austin and this shop had such incredible jewelry!! The best collection I’ve seen. It’s clear Allison has great taste. We will definitely be back soon!

The owner was nice and kindly let us know that the shop had closed while we were inside and shopping but that we were fine to continue. However minutes later the daughter appeared, bragging about her Rolex and very rudely told us that her father is too nice and that the shop is closed, just telling us to get out. We all immediately left and were very taken aback by how rude and bratty she was.

Owner was pretty rude and would not budge on pricing one bit even if you’re trying to buy bulk. Seems to over charge at estate sales so she can take everything left and sell it at her vintage store.

Really interesting fellow. He showed me this philips keyboard from possibly the late 80s that uses NMB dome with slider switches. But the crazy thing is that the sliders are shaped differently than the ones found in the Dell QuietKey! I think this board changes the history as we know it of NMB switches— this board has some kind of precursor or gen 0 version of the quietkey switch. The feeling isn’t amazing tho

EDIT: The owner just contacted me and apologized for my bad experience!! He’s sending me a free vintage Apple keyboard from the late 90s! Changing to 4 stars, thanks Ben!
Came in here looking for a new Apple keyboard for my Mac and when I asked the cashier he laughed because he thought I was joking.. I laughed along and then pretended I was really interested in these vintage keyboards…
On the other hand, I realized there’s a lot of cool history behind old keyboards. Some of those keys are designed in some strange ways.. wouldn’t have thought about it otherwise.
Minus points for not having modern keyboards but plus points for getting me interested in vintage keyboards. 3 stars.

His keyboards are… Okay at best. He doesn’t seem to know much about mechanical keyboards, but he had a good selection. Honestly, skip the middleman and buy from Amazon. Unless you really like old PS2 keyboards then go right ahead

I came on Wednesday but he was closed! If you are coming in to peruse the keyboard selection, make sure to check the store hours. He is only open Monday and Tuesday currently. Otherwise, great place!

Frequently Asked Questions about Antique Stores in Austin
What types of antiques can I find in Austin?
Austin antique stores offer a diverse range of items. You're likely to find vintage furniture, antique jewelry, collectible toys, rare books, mid-century modern design pieces, antique clothing, and a lot of Texas memorabilia. The inventory often changes, so each visit can reveal something new. It depends heavily on the specific store and their specializations.
How do I find the best antique stores in Austin?
Discovering the best antique stores requires some exploration. You can begin with online reviews and directories, checking ratings and reading customer feedback. Driving around neighborhoods like South Congress, East Austin, and North Austin will expose you to many shops. Asking local residents or fellow collectors can also lead you to hidden gems. Many are located a bit off the main streets.
What is the typical price range for antiques in Austin?
The price range for antiques in Austin varies greatly depending on the item's rarity, condition, and desirability. You can find smaller items for under $50, while larger pieces like vintage furniture can easily cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Haggling is sometimes possible, especially for larger or multiple purchases. Condition is key when considering price.
Are there any antique malls or collective antique stores in Austin?
Yes, Austin has several antique malls and collective stores where multiple vendors rent space. These are excellent places to find a wide variety of antiques in one location. They provide a broader selection compared to a single-owner antique store. Check for hours of operation, as they can vary.
How can I authenticate an antique I'm considering purchasing?
Authenticating an antique can be complex. Look for maker's marks, patent dates, and examine the item's construction and materials. Consulting with a qualified appraiser or an expert in the specific type of antique is always a good idea. Be wary of items with suspicious pricing or documentation.
What should I look for when assessing the condition of an antique?
When evaluating the condition of an antique, carefully examine it for signs of damage, such as cracks, chips, repairs, or fading. Assess the originality of any repairs – professional repairs done correctly can preserve value, while poorly done repairs can detract from it. Originality and patina often significantly influence an antique’s value.
Is it common to haggle over prices at antique stores in Austin?
While not always guaranteed, haggling is sometimes possible at antique stores in Austin, particularly for larger items or when purchasing multiple pieces. It's polite to inquire about the price and respectfully express your interest while mentioning your budget. Be prepared for the seller to decline, and don’t be overly aggressive.
What are the hours of operation for most antique stores in Austin?
Most antique stores in Austin typically operate during regular business hours, usually between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Some may be open on Sundays, but this is less common. Many stores are closed on Mondays. It is recommended to check the specific store's website or social media for the most accurate hours.
How can I find information about upcoming antique shows or events in Austin?
