It’s a wonderful agency that can help you out when you’re in need of medical supplies and equipment that you can not afford. The equipment is in very good condition. Looks brand spanking new! I dealt with a very nice young man named Elliott. Thank you Elliott.

Who ever the lady was that answered the phone was so rude. I just called to get the correct door entrance when I was following the directions on the first door I seen when it said something about round about. And she just cut me off and said I just should have followed the directions that would lead you to a parked van and that I need to pull in and put my hazard lights on in a harsh nasty voice and I did follow the directions that lead me to a lot a different vans in direction sections of the building. I don’t have a car, I have eye problems. I caught the city bus all the way there just to get the equipment for my mother. If you don’t like answering the phone then get a different job. I hope she doesn’t tend to the elderly with that kind of attitude. Who knows what else she might be doing. Good thing the young man that assisted me when I finally found the correct entrance was so nice, because I was hoping to meet her in person to give her a peace of my mind right back with an attitude. Other than that I like the old look of the building and the area. I just gave the one star because of her snobby attitude. Your bitterness will drag you down but not me. Have a nice and blessed day.

I took off of work to take my father in for the intake appointment to AGE. My father is a veteran and received the referral from the VA. The doctors orders were sent over prior to, which they obviously didn’t review prior to. During the intake appointment we saw the nurse, a lady by the name of Gena and Shanea. Everything seemed to be fine until we spoke with Shanea. Shanea scheduled my father for a trial day within the same week to see how things would go. Ten to fifteen minutes after we leave, I receive a call from Shanea stating that after speaking with the nurse they didn’t think they could provide the level of care needed. My question is, how would you know the level of care needed if you wouldn’t even allow him to complete the trial day? I’m sure there were other patients that wore adult diapers and there were others in wheelchairs as well. It’s unfortunate that our time was wasted and that my father won’t have the opportunity to social with others to improve his social and mobility skills. Not to mention that my father was looking forward to being able to get out of the house, but now we’re back at square one. Just because he has dementia and wears adult diapers, he’s still a human being.

It is a resource I tend to ho to but unfortunately their recommended list of resources in certain areas are out dated or does not exist. But i still appreciate their help in pointing me in the right directions. I find it hard to get someone on phone, but emailing seems to be the best way to communicate. AGAIN I appreciate the people and all they do to try to help while I navigate caring for my mom.

We also have a texas food pantry come on Wednesday so we can healthy food for us to pick out what we want. We feel blessed to get this food for our home.

Awesome adult daycare service. They have plenty of activities, serve hot nutritious food, and have a garden. Restrooms are big for those that need to change their brief/adult diapers and they have a staff nurse for those individuals that take medication. Alarms are also at every door as a safety measure for those with dementia. If you’re near the downtown Austin area and need a place for your loved one to go during the day while you’re at work, to keep them busy or simply give you a break, I’d recommend AGE of Central Texas

My mom recently fell and broke her right arm. The social worker that we requested came to our home to guide, and help us through the process recommended that we call AGE of Central Texas. We reached out, and Cindy answered our prayers. She guided us, and within a few days we were able to go and pick up a transport wheelchair, a bed rail, and a shower bench.
God bless Organizations and people like these.
Thank You Age of Central Texas and Cindy and everyone involved.

I found Town Square about 4 years into our journey of caring for my wife Rose who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I started off with her there for 2 days a week and then I increased to 5 days a week. I can’t say enough good things about our experience at Town Square! All of the staff is trained in caring for individuals with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. They all treated Rose with love and respect. They keep everyone busy with art activities, games, exercise, and music. Rose never resisted going there. There is a nurse on site everyday that did a great job of looking after Rose’s health and always kept me informed of any behavioral concerns.
I’ll forever be grateful for the care she received there.

Town Square is a great value to this area. Everything they do is done with consideration to the needs and preferences of participants and their care partners. The facility is brightly painted in primary colors that promote a cheerful atmosphere. Activities are scheduled to provide variety. I feel very confident in the care my husband receives, and I surely appreciate the smile on his face after he has spent a few hours in the care of Town Square staff.

Parking at this center was easy, and Janis at reception and Steve from Meals on Wheels were so pleasant and helpful in getting me oriented and registered. This center is getting so popular they ran out of lunches today for the first time since re-opening in May, 2022, so it’s best to come early to their11:30 lunches. They will be closed for Memorial Day, but have a lot of other activities here besides offering lunch, including table games, and line dancing lessons. Donations are much appreciated, especially from those who attend the weekday lunches!

A wonderful program wonderfully executed by just about every employee got tarnished by the conduct of most apparently the chief administrator on site, i.e. Manchaca:
01. A request from me to be a presenter was met with disdain from that administrator
02. The explanation on how to prepare that request was unclear -to say the least
03. Considerable time passed without hearing about the request
04. When there finally was a notice about the request, it was to deny the request by the administrator under the apparent pretest that I needed to be an “expert” (i.e. have some kind of certification on the area in the area in question, i.e. meditation
05. My suggestion to examine the fact that I was a psychologist and an educator with advanced degrees in both, including a U.S. doctorate in Education
06. As an addition to the need to better the administration of the program in the building, denial of empty spaces that are capable of accommodating ping-pong at adequate times available at the time is impossible to understand on the part of the building administration and program
Thanks to the lower administration of the building program, much improvement has been seen in it, although some improvements suggested have not seen the light yet. Part of the improvements is, indeed, that the administrator is rather absent. Thank you for that!
PS> It would probably be a good idea to collect suggestions and comments from the users themselves, such as the chess group.
Again, thanks!
END.==

Frequently Asked Questions about Elderly Day Centers in Austin
What exactly is an elderly day center?
An elderly day center is a supervised setting that provides a range of services for older adults who need some level of care but don't require full-time residence in a nursing home. These centers offer a safe and supportive environment during the day, providing social interaction, recreational activities, and sometimes healthcare support for individuals whose needs are not fully met by living at home alone.
Who typically uses elderly day centers?
Elderly day centers cater to a diverse group of individuals. Common users include those experiencing cognitive decline due to conditions like Alzheimer's disease or dementia, those with physical limitations or mobility issues, individuals struggling with social isolation or loneliness, and those needing supervision due to medical conditions or a need for medication management. The key factor is a need for daytime support to maintain independence and quality of life.
What types of activities are offered at these centers?
Activities vary significantly between centers but often include exercise classes, arts and crafts, music therapy, games, educational programs, and group outings. Many centers offer specialized programs tailored to specific interests or needs, such as memory care activities or horticulture therapy. The goal is to provide engaging and stimulating experiences.
How do I find elderly day centers in Austin?
Several resources can help you locate elderly day centers in Austin. You can start by contacting the Area Agency on Aging for Travis County, which maintains a directory of local services. Online search engines and directories are also useful. Additionally, speaking with a geriatric care manager can help identify suitable options based on individual needs and preferences.
What are the costs associated with using a day center?
Costs vary depending on the center's location, services offered, and the level of care required. Generally, you can expect to pay an hourly or daily rate. Some centers may accept Medicaid or Medicare, while others may rely on private payment. It's important to inquire about fees and payment options during the initial consultation.
How do I know if my loved one is a good fit for a day center?
Consider whether your loved one would benefit from social interaction, structured activities, or assistance with daily tasks. A day center may be a good fit if they are experiencing feelings of loneliness, isolation, or boredom, or if they need help managing medications or maintaining personal hygiene. A needs assessment can help determine suitability.
Are background checks performed on staff?
Reputable elderly day centers prioritize the safety and well-being of their clients. They should conduct thorough background checks on all staff members, including criminal history checks and verification of credentials. It's wise to inquire about the center’s staffing policies and training programs during your visit.
What is the staff-to-client ratio?
The staff-to-client ratio is a critical factor in ensuring adequate care and supervision. A lower ratio generally indicates a higher level of individual attention and support. While the ideal ratio varies depending on the needs of the clients, it’s essential to understand the center’s staffing levels and how they impact the quality of care provided.
Can my loved one attend the day center on a part-time basis?
Many elderly day centers offer flexible attendance options, allowing clients to participate on a part-time basis. This can be particularly beneficial for those who only require occasional support or wish to gradually adjust to the center’s environment. Discussing attendance schedules and availability is key during the consultation.
What happens in case of a medical emergency?
Elderly day centers should have clear emergency protocols in place to address medical emergencies. This includes having trained staff who can administer first aid, access to emergency medical services, and procedures for notifying family members. It is essential to understand the center’s emergency response plan and the qualifications of their staff.
