We had two back-to-back escape room experiences here and left extremely satisfied. After doing Prison Break with Spencer we knew we had to come back. Spencer was not only a great game guide but also super personable and gave us a recommendation for another escape room in Houston that we’re planning to check out before heading back to California. His energy and genuine enthusiasm made our first visit unforgettable.
The next night, we did Cosmic Crisis with Joe, who also gave us an awesome experience. But the biggest shoutout goes to Hailey, the general manager, who personally followed up with us after our first game and went above and beyond to make sure our second visit was smooth and memorable. Hailey even made our booking private and ensured every detail was taken care of. Her kindness and communication really stood out.
Also wanted to thank Taylor for calling ahead when we were running late. Despite the delay, we were still fully accommodated and got our full time, which we really appreciated.
The staff here is truly amazing. Friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about creating memorable experiences. Spencer, Hailey, and the whole team made this a big highlight of our trip!

I’m one of those people that would second guess paying to escape a room. With that being said this place completely changed my mind about escape rooms!! Stella was very very kind & her energy was great. We honestly had a BLAST in ‘the playground’ escape room. I don’t wanna ruin any surprises but the part at the end that required ‘teamwork’ was so adorable and really had every single one of us working together! We finished with 12 minutes to spare. It was truly a one of a kind experience.

10 -11 and 12 year old boys plus my husband and me. Whew! Hazel was our game master and she was so good at “reading the room” – dropping hints (not answers!) when the boys were getting frustrated or losing the plot. She also helped ensure they were successful without giving too much away. My son is already hoping to go back next year for his birthday! And as a bonus, the kids employees made a cute card for my son.

The Escape Game Austin is an absolute blast and I highly recommend it, especially for team bonding! They offer a wide range of themes, each with its own unique challenges and atmosphere. The staff are consistently nice and friendly, which really adds to the experience. We had a great time tackling ‘Classified,’ and I’m already looking forward to trying another theme on our next visit!

This was my first escape room in Austin, Texas, and I had an absolute blast In the cosmic escape room!
We were with a group of six other people that didn’t know each other, and it was still a great experience.
Cam was the employee that helped us out (even though we didn’t take a single clue and escaped with 11 mins remaining!) I will definitely be back!

We did the playground escape room and even thought it’s meant for 12 people, we were able to do it with 4 with a minute to spare! We had so much fun and Cam was awesome with giving us hints to figure out the room! Highly recommend The Escape Game!

This was so much fun! Played the Gold Rush with Cam as our guide and he was great! Gave us the right clues at the right times. We played with only two people and got pretty far but if we had about eight people, it was sad to be a lot easier so recommend going with more people

Escape Hour was really fun! We did Call of the Ancient and it was a really good room. Challenging and really unique puzzles. We have been to different escape rooms all over TX and other states too and this one was definitely a great place! We will be back!

Our group of 4 has collectively done a ton of escape rooms over the years, and none have been talked about with such laughter afterwards as this one: The Cabin pt. 1. Sabina, our game master, is insanely good at her job (once you do the room you’ll understand why I’m saying that) and made the experience that much more immersive for us from the moment we walked up to the entrance of the building.
I will say that we would never dream of taking our preteens to this room. Jump scares are one thing, but this room does a phenomenal job of creating suspense in every moment. Not what I want my kids feeling at their age. But when they are much older, they will hopefully get to have as much fun as we had in The Cabin (or at least afterwards when we felt safe again).

Amazing experience as soon as you step through the door. Leia was a brilliant host, I couldn’t stop smiling because of her enthusiasm and love of the job. Our group did The Cabin: Final Chapter and had a blast. We screamed, we laughed, and we escaped! Thank you again, Leia! You are awesome. We have done almost every room at Escape Hour and always have a great time. The puzzles are challenging but intuitive and everything flows really well. Hands down the best escape room in the Austin area (worth the drive)!

Best escape rooms in Austin! We did the Cabin chapter 3 with a group of 4 and it was great. Our guide, June, was fantastic as well and prepared us with all the info we needed. Horror fans will love this room. The atmosphere is the top quality and the puzzles are challenging. We escaped with 4 minutes to spare. We will be coming back for more rooms!

Really well-designed and maintained rooms. Family owned business and you can tell they really care about creating awesome experiences for people that love escape rooms. We’ve now completed all 3 chapters of the Cabin and highly recommend the entire series. If you like a little horror in your escape room experience, those rooms are the for you. Most unique experiences in an escape room and we’ve done hundreds all over the world. Leah was a fantastic actress!

Came here on a whim and it did not disappoint!! We did Dead man’s cove which is a pirate themed escape room and it was really cool!! The rooms truly do match to the theme and it wasn’t difficult at all…except for one part only. The game master Lee was amazing and did a great job at explaining everything to us! They were so nice! 🙂 We will definitely come back to try the Cabin part 1 & 2!!!

This was our first escape room experience and wow what a time we had doing the Cabin part 1! It was INTENSE! We were so scared during the experience and haven’t stopped laughing since leaving. It was one of the most fun things we have done!
Ciana was amazing from start to finish and provided just the right amount of assistance when my brain was too overwhelmed.
I can’t recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back and can’t wait for the cabin part 2!

We had an absolute blast at this escape room! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was immersive and exciting. The puzzles were clever, well-designed, and just the right level of challenging – we were constantly engaged and loved how every clue led naturally to the next. We have done the Pirate and Wizard themes and both were executed perfectly with impressive attention to detail that really brought the story to life. We already have our eye on other rooms to do in the future!
A special shoutout to our game host Heather – she was phenomenal! She set the tone right from the beginning and gave just the right amount of guidance to keep us on track without giving too much away. She was the best!

My kiddos and I had a great time in the Wizard Trials room at PanIQ Escape Rooms! The mom was well kept and the puzzles were challenging enough without making you want to give up. I liked being able to provide my kiddos with the opportunity to use their brain over the summer in a super fun way. They’re already begging to go back!

It was amazing!! The hints (which we needed a lot) were enough to give us somewhere to look without giving it away and responses were fast when asking for a hint. The staff is also very sweet and kind. I will definitely book again.

It was fun! And liked the tablet with the hints was nice, hard was not very hard. It was nice to have the weekday code! And was offered a discount to book another room right after, but it ends up being more then if week booked online with (even same day) and before discounts because they only allow you to do private room up charge, so a little bummer to want to stay and play another room!

Great Room Escape offers a fun and engaging activity for groups. The puzzles are generally well-designed and provide a satisfying challenge, suitable for both experienced and novice escape room enthusiasts. I’s a great way to encourage teamwork and problem-solving skills, and the varied themes present a wide selection for diverse tastes, offering a solid entertainment value.
While the overall experience is positive, the quality can occasionally vary depending on the specific room chosen and the availability of attentive game masters. A key ingredient for success is a knowledgeable staff who can offer subtle guidance without giving away solutions, enhancing the sense of accomplishment when a puzzle is solved. Ultimately, it’s a worthwhile experience.

I had the best time!!! My first time experiencing an escape room and gotta say I had more fun than I thought I would!
The only reason why the 3 stars its because the staff literally gave us the answer to 2 mayor clues while we still had 28 minutes of experience, so I feel like the game ended way earlier than it should’ve, and could’ve let us figure it out on our own, I mean that’s the point of the experience… Would’ve loved to finish the game 100% on us, or at least they would’ve given us the answer 5 min before our hour ended.
Other than that, great experience!

The vibes here are super sketchy. The employee was in the room constantly watching us. Additionally, he was cleaning stuff up the whole time. It completely ruined the experience. This was not worth $100. We were put in a room at the beginning to watch a rules video, and we watched the employee actually lock us in that room and unlock it when the video was over. That makes zero sense to me and it made me fearful of a room that isn’t scary. A lot of the puzzles were not following the story line. You go back and forth from room to room and some of the clues are not logical. I have done over 100 escapes rooms, and I wouldn’t recommend it at all. Also, the game master seemed very unhappy to be there. 0/10.

We went to the Great Escape Zombie room as a family for Mother’s Day (kiddos 14 and 12). We had a great time. We escaped with 3 minutes to spare. The puzzles were challenging and the zombie in the room element added some intensity. The team at Great Escape was great. I recommend a visit!

The great Escape room was so much fun. We went at 9:30 PM. The room had plenty of props that gave a great experience. Definitely a lot of clues that you will need to put together and solve your way out of the room. The employees were awesome! Very helpful and courteous. They asked us if we were ok and even gave us clues. The axe throwing was so much fun as well. You get a target and have 2 practice throws and 5 actual throws. They have beverages for sale available and a machine that you can punch too for fun.
The parking lot need some lights tho

Another great escape room experience. My family has done half a dozen escape rooms over the last couple of years and we tried out the Houdini one for Mother’s Day. It was fun and challenging. No jump scare! And our host was good at helping us when we needed it. We escaped with 5 mins left. Would recommend.

We had an awesome experience here! I brought my family and friends and we did the Houdini room which was a lot of fun! It was bigger than other escape rooms I’ve been, challenging in the best way but not too hard that we couldn’t escape in the end. I got a Groupon which made it affordable and the staff there were super kind and helpful! Parking is easy to find and they’ve got clean restrooms as well as axe throwing!

Shoutout to Christian! He was really sweet and funny. We had a great time! Our group did the “The Dream” escape room. It was visually stunning, challenging, but not frustrating. Christian was an awesome game master. Great sense of humor and enthusiastic about the puzzles. Explains what you’ve missed at the end if anything SUPER stumped you (if you want). Our family of 4 had a great time doing the Jungle Game room! It was tricky overall, but had some easy elements that meant our elementary age kids could help figure out pieces of the puzzle. We had such a great time celebrating a friend’s birthday at Lonestar Rage & Entertainment! The people there are so nice and helpful. They provide everything you need for a smashing fun time. I just found an incredible spot called The Breaking Point, and I can’t wait to visit it someday! This place seems like the ultimate destination for psychological release. They have a room where you can smash all kinds of things—TVs, bottles, cans, laptops—basically, anything that comes under your hand. Pure chaos in the best way possible!
And if that’s not enough, they also have a paint room where you can throw, smash, and spill paint however you like. It’s a creative way to let loose, de-stress, and maybe even discover your inner artist while breaking stuff!
Highly recommend checking this out if you’re into unique experiences. I’ll definitely be making my way here soon.

I’m not usually one to write reviews but I definitely had to for The Breaking Point! My friend and I came in yesterday and had the most amazing time. We were immediately greeted with such excitement and humor and the guys made the process so easy. You’re given a jumpsuit and safety gear and even have access to a speaker in the room for your own music. Safety is a number one priority with fun and stress relief a close second. I do recommend wearing shoes with thicker soles because you will be standing on broken glass. We wore blundstones instead of sneakers and it was great because we did leave with some glass embedded in the bottoms (all for the sake of fun tho)! This was the best $40 I’ve spent in a long time and I would buy a membership if I could. Could not recommend this place enough!

Took my 13 year old with several friends. We occupied both rooms (20,000 Leagues and Casino Heist). We had a blast. Both rooms were able to cater to that age group. Staff was super friendly and accommodating to a rambunctious group of boys. Parking was easy. I can’t wait to go back and try out the other room I didn’t see.

This is our favorite escape room in Austin! We’ve done both rooms and think the theming for both is done really well.
The design of the puzzles are also amazing. You’re never confused where certain answers should be used and there’s no lazy puzzles here where you have a generic thing to solve which gives you 4 random numbers and then are forced to try it on all the 4-digit locks in the room. The puzzles fit the room and the hints in the room subtly tell you exactly where to go next.
We’ll be looking forward to future rooms being released!

First time visiting Novel Escape in Austin and we had the best time! We had a group of 4, with ages ranging from 12-65, and escaped the 20,000 leagues under the sea room with a second to spare. The puzzles were interesting, challenging (but not impossible), and the theme was well executed. We’ve done other brands of escape rooms before and this is one of our new favorites. They have new rooms in development so you can try more than one. Highly recommend for puzzle and book lovers!

Novel Escape is by far the best escape room company in the entire Austin area. The care and intent that all of the game designers and game masters put into their craft is something that is to be applauded. I was vastly impressed when I played the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea about a year ago so I was extremely excited to hear they finished their new room Casino Royale Heist. The room was fantastic by all measures. 10/10 experience, can’t wait to tell my friends about it!

Their space is so cool looking and the space is perfect for 8-4 groups of people. The games are so interactive and fun and I had so much fun with my colleagues and can even communicate with one another through headsets. They also have axe throwing and escape rooms. Staff are really nice too

We did the time travel escape room today and it was so much fun! Just enough of a challenge to where we were puzzled but we ended up figuring it out without using all of our hints. Caleb was amazing and super informative and made our experience a 10/10!

My kids (ages 14, 11, and 10) and I were there a little less than a week ago (April 2025) and we really enjoyed our time! My son picked it for his birthday outing since he really loves escape rooms and he was not disappointed! The game we did was one of the easier ones (Dragons) and it was perfect–we escaped with nine minutes to spare, but the game was complicated enough that we got stumped a few times and were never bored. The whole thing was like doing an escape room while being in a video game. It was really easy to get used to the VR headset and controls. My older kids who don’t really like escape rooms even loved this! It felt like we all contributed equally to our success and everyone left in high spirits. I’d love to come back and try a harder one! I don’t even think I will mind if I lose!
In addition to the escape room game being awesome, the staff who set everything up for us was really patient and kind too. I could tell he enjoys his job and loves seeing people succeed!

TLDR- Don’t waste your money!
Please don’t let the 4.5 star rating fool you. I went here a few weeks ago with some friends, and left extremely disappointed.
I cannot believe this place has such a high rating.
This is now located inside the owner’s house. We got a little lost because we were expecting the store front pictured on Google.
The experience is incredibly repetitive…you’re put in a room with some LED screens. There’s some fun lighting, but that’s it. The whole experience is shouting “psych”, playing with plastic fruit, and high-fiving each other. Oh wait you high-five the floor, too.
Based on other similar rated reviews..he hasn’t changed this format or the videos in years. This is very outdated, niche humor. Think videos you made back in 2008 with Microsoft Paint.
Overall, please consider doing something else. For $25 you can have a lot more fun in Austin. The owner/creator was incredibly nice, though!

This was an interesting artistic experiment. It’s a fun idea for a small friend-group or a date night for people who want to be silly for a little while. However, the execution did not meet my expectations. I would not recommend this for a first date as the experience lends itself to a variety of awkward moments.

It was pretty boring and cringey—I’m sorry!! but just… honestly? overpriced and not worth the time overall 🙁
The owner is super nice, but I wanted to do my part by leaving an honest review so others think twice before spending money.
It’s essentially a pre-recorded video where you say and do repetitive things.
Btw it is not in a brick and mortar store. The Eureka Room is now set-up in the owner’s home which is kind of odd… so pee before you go unless you wanna use his own private bathroom.
Also the owner left the lights on nearly the whole time, and we didn’t know they were Supposed to be off so we didn’t say anything.
Idk, man. I’m really confused by the reviews praising it? Because I felt majorly swindled by the price for essentially watching Millenial-cringe humor (think primitive days of YouTube like Charlie the Unicorn but worse) and high-fiving people over and over again.

The Eureka room is a pleasant experience for those who are looking to lightly participate in a series of immersive scenes! There are lights, voices, colors, and activities for a small group of people to enjoy and be wondered by. If you’re a performer or artist, I think you’ll super enjoy it! If you’re not, I think you’ll still super enjoy it!! The host/owner, Michael, is a friendly and welcoming presence and I could tell right away how passionate he is about The Eureka Room, which makes the experience that much better, because he cares a lot! He assured that we felt safe, comfortable, and excited. Whenever I’m in Austin, I’m surely heading back to The Eureka Room for more fun, creative times!
*update: The owner was able to make time for my friend to experience The Eureka Room as well, because they weren’t able to do it the day before, and the owner even participated with us…AND IT WAS JUST AS GREAT!!!

If you are up for a random time with strangers, getting silly, laughing, and maybe testing your reflexes, this is the place for you! I had a great time; definitely think the more the merrier if you go, but we had plenty of fun with two pairs. Mike has something special here.

Very cool, unique experience. Traveling alone and socially awkward haha and yet had an absolute blast with 5 strangers. Highly recommend to singles, couples, groups etc for fun or bonding. Sounds silly, but the experience totally promotes synergy

What a unique way to experience Austin! I’ve lived here for a while, but this game showed me all kinds of quirky landmarks I had no idea existed. The time travel theme was creatively integrated into everything we did. All of the artifacts that we got in our box were beautifully designed and high quality. There’s even a mixtape to listen to while you play! We had our kids with us and they were able to participate and contribute, but they may have cost us the win. 🙂

Escape the Box coordinated an excellent corporate event for 105 people for us! The event took us about 30 minutes less than predicted, but folks had a really great time and appreciated the downtime. The puzzles were challenging yet doable. Rain was in the forecast, but Mark and Aris were flexible and we were able to make a game-time call to stay outside when the rain held off. Highly recommend!

Thank you to Mark and the team for a fantastic experience! We played Escape the Box as part of our team building offsite and it could not have been better. We got to explore downtown Austin solving fun riddles using landmarks and attractions. The team-based activity encouraged friendly competition and lots of laughs. Highly recommend!

Mark and Aris organized the best event for our company retreat in Austin! Everything ran smoothly from start to finish, the team helped plan everything. A huge thanks to Mark and Aris for the energy and time in making it a fun event all our colleagues enjoyed, including so many photos! We would love to do another event with Escape the Box next time we’re in Austin.

We had the best time with Mark and team at our team event in East Austin in October. Super fun, so well organized, and really clever group activity. We loved it and would absolutely do it again.

Mark was wonderful to work with, proactive and flexible for our corporate group’s custom needs (start time of the event, location, duration, number of participants, etc). We got a custom scavenger-like hunt through the ~3 blocks surrounding our office. Everyone had a blast. Mark helped guide the group throughout the activity, and our team had fun bonding over a bit of friendly competition. Thanks Mark!

I recently organized a small (under 10) corporate outdoor escape room event with Mark through Wishing Horse in Austin, TX. Mark was quick to respond, very organized, and readily available to answer any questions and make the entire planning process seamless. Our team loved the tour and had fun spending a day walking around a few S. Congress landmarks on the scavenger hunt. I’d recommend for both small and large events and would happily work with them again in the future

Frequently Asked Questions about Escape Rooms in Austin
What exactly is an escape room?
An escape room is a team-based game where participants are locked in a themed room and must use logic, problem-solving skills, and observation to find clues, solve puzzles, and ultimately escape within a time limit, typically 60 minutes. It's designed to be a fun and engaging experience for groups of friends, families, or colleagues.
How many people can participate in an escape room?
The number of participants allowed in an escape room varies depending on the room's size and design. Most rooms accommodate between 2 and 8 players, though some larger rooms can hold even more. It's always a good idea to check the specific room's capacity on the facility's website before booking.
Are escape rooms suitable for all ages?
While escape rooms can be enjoyable for a wide range of ages, age restrictions often apply. Many rooms have a minimum age requirement, typically 10-12 years old, and some may require adult supervision for younger participants. It’s important to read the room descriptions carefully to understand the difficulty level and suitability for different age groups.
What types of themes are available in Austin escape rooms?
Austin boasts a wide variety of escape room themes, catering to different interests. You're likely to find rooms themed around historical events, sci-fi adventures, horror stories, fantasy worlds, and even heists. The options are quite diverse, providing something for almost everyone’s taste.
What if we get stuck on a puzzle?
Most escape room facilities offer hints or clues to help players who are struggling. These hints are usually provided through a monitor system or by a game master who can offer guidance without giving away the solution directly. Don’t hesitate to ask for a hint if you feel completely stuck; the goal is to have fun!
What should we wear to an escape room?
There’s no strict dress code for escape rooms, but it's generally recommended to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Some rooms may involve crawling, climbing, or searching under furniture, so attire should allow for that kind of movement. Avoid wearing anything too valuable, as it could potentially get damaged.
Can I book an escape room for a large group?
Many escape room facilities can accommodate large groups. However, it’s usually necessary to book in advance, especially for weekends or special events. Some facilities may offer multiple rooms that can be played simultaneously, allowing large groups to compete against each other.
How much do escape rooms typically cost?
The cost of an escape room varies depending on the facility, room theme, and group size. Typically, expect to pay between $25 and $40 per person. Some facilities offer discounts for larger groups or repeat customers. Checking the facility’s website will provide current pricing information.
What happens if we don't escape?
Most escape rooms don't penalize you for not escaping within the allotted time. While escaping is the goal, the primary focus is on having a fun and engaging experience. Often, facilities will provide a photo opportunity for groups that don't escape, commemorating their valiant effort.
Are there any accessibility considerations for escape rooms?
Accessibility can vary significantly between different escape room facilities. It's crucial to contact the facility directly to inquire about accessibility features, such as ramps, accessible restrooms, and room layouts that accommodate wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Some rooms may have limitations due to the physical challenges involved.
