The communication from the school was always clear and consistent, and it was obvious how much love and intention went into every aspect of their program. The teachers were not only knowledgeable and experienced, but genuinely passionate about early childhood education.

The saddest part of moving out of the South Austin area is having to leave Goddard. Our daughter has attended Goddard since she was 7 months old and truly thrived during the 20 months that she was there. Highly recommend Goddard as a place where you’ll confidently leave your child knowing she will be in a thriving environment surrounded by caring teachers.

We started at INIC when our son was 4 months old. This was our first baby, so making the jump to start daycare was one that we were nervous about but we have been SO happy with our experience. From the first day, you can feel the warmth and love from all the teachers, not just our specific classroom. They greet him (and I) every morning as we walk in. He has grown leaps and bounds in his gross motor and social development and it’s in large part to the activities that they do everyday. Ms. Marianela and Ms. Sofia are absolutely amazing. The love and care that they give to each of the babies makes them feel like family. They have also been so good for us as first time parents on things to do with him as he gets older. Our little one is always so happy when we drop him off and when we pick him up. He knows it’s a happy place where he is loved.

We have loved the curriculum with INIC. Both our children have attended and are fluent in Spanish. The 2x weekly Mandarin lessons are awesome because during self play our girls are speaking it. We LOVE the camera access that is included in enrollment. I have never had concerns about my children with their teachers, all the kids are well loved.

My little boy started INIC at 2.5 years old. It was quite an adjustment for him the first 2 weeks however he quickly adapted with the help of his kind teachers.
He graduated pre K couple months ago. If INIC offered a kinder program, I would have enrolled him.
Our boy became fluent in Spanish quickly and learned so much from their curriculum. INIC is a special place and we’re going to miss the teachers dearly.

We’ve had our kids at INIC since 2022 and we love it here. Especially this past year, our teachers are amazing and you can tell how much they love the kids. It’s easier to leave them when you know that. My older daughter is basically fluent in Spanish at this point and my younger son is getting there. I would recommend INIC to parents who want their children to learn Spanish.

INIC was the best school for us as first time parents. Our son was in the infant center for several months until we had to move due to needing a different physical location. I so wish we could keep him with INIC through pre-k as I absolutely loved the teachers, environment, and community overall. The Spanish immersion was a big draw, but the love and attention of everyone who works at INIC (especially Carmen and Merari!!) supersedes the other amazing benefits of the center. I always felt our son was safe and well cared for.

INIC has been a true blessing for our family. Our son David has attended INIC for the past two years, and as a bilingual family, it was incredibly important to us that he continue to grow academically and socially in Spanish. INIC exceeded every expectation.

The school is exceptionally clean and secure, with top-notch safety protocols and the Watch Me Grow camera system that offers peace of mind. The curriculum is outstanding—engaging, immersive, and truly effective in developing language and early academic skills.

We are especially grateful to the amazing teachers who helped shape his experience. In Pre-K3, Ms. Yesica, Ms. Lilia & Ms. Merari helped him adjust to school for the first time. They made him feel safe, loved, and supported, and helped him come out of his shell socially and emotionally. Their patience and warmth laid a strong foundation for his love of learning.

In Pre-K4, Ms. Belem and Ms. Andrea nurtured his curiosity and continued to support his academic growth. They are such special teachers—creative, caring, and deeply dedicated. We absolutely love them and are so thankful for everything they’ve done for our son.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to be involved through an active and supportive PTA. Ms. Nora, the director, is fantastic—she communicates openly and regularly, and always keeps parents informed about classroom and school-wide updates. She is loved by all of the students and families.

Our son has thrived at INIC. He’s grown in confidence, communication, and his passion for learning. We are so excited for him to continue attending INIC’s summer camp—it’s just another reason we love this school so much.

We are deeply grateful to INIC, the wonderful teachers, staff, and especially Ms. Nora. This is hands down the best Spanish immersion preschool in all of Austin. I recommend this school to all parents. Thank you, INIC, for everything!

Our older daughter (now 7) attended Copernicus for 2 years and she (and we) loved it. When it was time to send our youngest to school, we knew from the beginning that we wanted to send her to Copernicus. There’s been an ownership change in the interim, but the spirit of the school is the same. They spend lots of time outside, do all kinds of interesting activities each week, and build caring relationships with students. Just this week, our 2 year old got to (help) make ice cream, and participate in two color experiments as they work through their weekly theme. There’s lots of communication with parents and our kiddo has friends and feels cared for. Would definitely recommend!

My son started in August of 2024 and due to us moving will be ending his time here in May 2025…it was his first time doing an all day program, twice a week and I’m so happy we came here. The staff is amazing and the curriculum is interesting and unique. They just had farm animals visit earlier this week and my son was so excited to tell me all about it. I wish I could keep him here until he was off to kindergarten but so happy this experience turned out so well. For everything they offer and being Spanish immersion, I think it’s also fairly priced.

Our 2.5 year old son is completing his first full year at Copernicus this summer and it has been a wonderful experience! We love that it is both STEM-focused, and Spanish immersion! His language abilities really exploded after a few months at Copernicus, and he is even stringing Spanish sentences together now. The playground is also very large and one of his favorite places to be! It is so exciting to see him shine in this environment and we are happily returning for another year!

My daughter has been at Copernicus for nearly 2 years. She is absolutely thriving and loves going to school. The curriculum is engaging and all of her teachers have been so caring and communicative. The school has the most beautiful outdoor space where the kids spend a ton of time playing outside in nature. The most incredible bonus is the Spanish immersion environment. My family speaks zero Spanish at home, but my daughter is bilingual in English and Spanish…what a gift to give her in life. The owner, Amy, and the director, Yesenia, are engaged, enthusiastic, and attentive. Highly, highly recommend this school if you want a STEM-focused curriculum filled with lots of time to explore nature and a Spanish immersion program.

Frequently Asked Questions about Schools in Austin

What are the different types of schools available in Austin?

Austin offers a diverse range of schools, including public schools, charter schools, and private schools. Public schools are funded by tax dollars and are generally free to attend. Charter schools are publicly funded but operate with more autonomy. Private schools are not publicly funded and typically require tuition. There are also magnet schools within the public system focused on specific themes or subjects.

How do I find information about Austin's public school district?

The primary public school district serving Austin is Austin Independent School District (AISD). You can find comprehensive information on their website, which includes details about school boundaries, academic performance, programs offered, and registration procedures. Several online resources also provide school ratings and comparisons.

What factors should I consider when choosing a school for my child?

Several factors warrant consideration. These include the school’s academic reputation, teacher-student ratio, extracurricular activities, school culture, and location. It's also crucial to consider your child's individual needs and learning style when making a decision. Visiting the school and talking to current parents can provide valuable insights.

How do school zones work in Austin?

School zones, also known as attendance zones, determine which public schools a student is eligible to attend. These zones are typically based on residential addresses. Boundaries can be complex and subject to change, so it's vital to verify the current zoning information using the AISD's official zoning tool. You can find this on their website. Transfer requests are sometimes available if you want your child to attend a school outside of your assigned zone.

What are magnet schools, and how do I apply?

Magnet schools offer specialized programs and curricula, often focused on STEM, arts, or language immersion. Admission to magnet schools is typically competitive and requires an application process. These applications usually open during a specific application window. The process often includes a lottery system if the demand exceeds available spots.

What is the process for enrolling a child in an Austin public school?

The enrollment process generally involves providing proof of residency, such as a lease agreement or utility bill. You'll also need to provide the child's birth certificate, immunization records, and previous academic records if available. AISD has a dedicated online portal for new student enrollment. It's advisable to start the process well in advance of the school year.

How do charter schools differ from traditional public schools?

Charter schools operate under a charter granted by the state, allowing them more flexibility in curriculum, teaching methods, and school management. They often have a specific focus or mission. While tuition-free like public schools, charter schools often have a more rigorous application process. They are still publicly funded, but are held accountable for student performance.

What options are available for students with special needs?

Austin’s public schools and charter schools offer a range of special education services for students with disabilities. These services are designed to meet the individual needs of each student. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed for each eligible student. Parents should contact the school district or charter school for more information and to initiate the evaluation process.

How can I find information about private schools in Austin?

Several online directories and organizations list private schools in the Austin area. These resources often provide information about tuition rates, curriculum, admission requirements, and school philosophy. Attending open houses and touring the campuses is a great way to get to know the schools firsthand. It's advisable to research and compare multiple schools before making a decision.

What are the typical school start and end times in Austin?

School start and end times vary by school. Typically, elementary schools start the earliest, followed by middle schools, and then high schools. Austin Independent School District's website lists the specific start and end times for each school. Charter schools may have different schedules. It’s best to check the individual school's website or contact them directly for accurate information. Transportation schedules are linked to these times as well.
